  1 Question
Q: What does it mean 50:1 for gas?
by Joanne from Texas on June 02, 2011

A: Joanne - all 2-cycle gas engines require the operator to "mix" the gas and oil together before filling the gas tank on the engine. Think about oil and vinegar dressing on a salad. For an engine that is a 50:1 mix, you would use 50 parts gas to 1 part oil for the proper fuel mix to run the engine at it's optimal level. Exact mix proportions will be on the bottle of 2-cycle engine oil - that is, how much oil goes into one gallon or one quart of gasoline.

Tough Yet Light And Dependable
I've owned mine for over seven years and have never had a problem with it. It starts on the second or third pull, depending on how long it's been since I last used it. I use synthetic oil to mix in my gas and always use Sta-bil during and between seasons. I use Husqvarna .095 titanium line and have had very few line feeding problems. I love it because it's light weight and I can even use it one handed at times. This is on par with more expensive trimmers and is well worth the money over the... more

Still Going Strong
I have had this trimmer now over 7 years and it starts right up on the first or second start every time. Never had any issues with it, just out fuel in replace the line every now and then and go at it. Never gets bogged down on anything, I usually only have to run it a 1/4 throttle when cutting grass. I have replaced the spark plug once and cleaned the air filter a few times and this thing just keeps on going. If anything ever happens to it I will definitely buy another one just like it,... more

Great Weedwacker
I purchased for my husband as a birthday gift to replace his old Sthl. We had the other one for 8 years and paid much more than this new one. It never really ran correctly from the beginning. We were pleasantly surprised when we received this Husqvana model. Right out of the box, easy assembly and within 15 minutes he added gas and was off.

We have a lot of property and a small pond. It cut right through the tall weeds around the pond with out any issue. It was at this time we... more

Best Trimmer I Have Ever Purchased
Just bought the Husqvarna 223L. I have 4+ acres to trim around that includes woods, wetlands, water retention area, and more. I have gone through several weed whackers in the past including Echo, WeedEater, and Cub Cadet. This Husqvarna is a beast! Started on the 2nd pull right out of the box. Nothing stopped this thing. I ran it wide open for an hour and it never hesitated. You can't clog the head on this thing. I've got cattails that would stop most whackers- not this one. It went... more

City Slicker/subural
I never paid a lot of attention to the back-back yard of my property because of the irregular ground. And because of that, brush in the form of knot weed, sumac, thistle, and some kind of thorny plant have taken over. I've made quite a few attempts to gain control but the time, effort, many restarts and frustration that occurred while using sub-par trimmers was too much. I did some homework and in field research ( interviewed pro landscapers) that tend my company's and surrounding businesses... more

Burn Hazard
This trimmer will do everything a homeowner would expect from it. Ease of starting and runs trouble free. It does however have 1 major issue. When used for an extended period of time, it will burn skin on your forearm. The burning is due from exhaust and engine cooling air exits.

Very Powerful Trimmer With One Defect
I have had my 223L for about a month and have used it a few times. I am a homeowner with a large yard (about 2 acres) that has a lot of plant and flower beds--trees----sidewalks and driveway edges. Trimming usually takes me almost 2 hours in this hot Florida sun.
I purchased the 223L to replace 32cc trimmer that weighed in at about 15 pounds. The 223L is more powerful, weighs significantly less, and is a gas miser. I was wary of the small fuel tank--but it was enough to complete my work... more

Excellent Product For Some People
This is an excellent trimmer for some people. I am use to using Stihl trimmer. There are some differences. First the Stihl has a flatter head on the advance spool, so you can get closer to your cutting and I find I can judge what I am cutting better so I don't clip the wife's flowers. The second thing is when I go to trim, I automatically rest my arm on the plastic shroud surrounding the motor. With the Husqvarna you do not want to do that. The shroud gets very warm so I have to adjust the... more

Trimmer
Two strings seem to increase the efficiency of this trimmer. Had no problem clearing about half acre of brush under the trees in the front. Would recommend this trimmer.
