Mtd? Seems Ok Though.
I was worried when I found out Cub Cadet was owned by MTD, but the trimmer seems fine. Good power and starting. Maybe wish the shaft was slightly longer.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Light Weight, Reliable

Runs Great If You Can Start It
Arrived with the coupling knob broken off. After replacement arrived it would not start. Took off the air cleaner and found that one of the alignment pins in the carb was not fully inserted and had the choke blocked in fully closed position.

After fixing that, I was able to get it started and it runs great. The string head works great. Tried to put blade on and nut was bunged up. Got the threads cleaned enough to install. "Tool free" changes does not apply to the brush blade.... more
Pros: Durable, Features, Price
Cons: Hard To Start Need Tools To Switch To Brush Blade

Cub Cadet St228 Purchase
Good trimmer for homeowner use. A little hard to start but I think it's that way with all small gas engines. Does a nice job of trimming grass and also brush cutting. Once you have changed attachments on it for trimming and brush cutting a couple of times it becomes a no-brainer. Ear protection is recommended as it is a little loud, but I would buy this model again.
Pros: Easy To Use, Price, Reliable, I'd Buy It Again

Outstanding
Replaced my 25-year-old Homelite and my 12 yr old edger. I was nervous about the performance of a combo machine. No problem, the cub cadet is outstanding though I wish they would do away with the bump line feed. It is great and the second heavy duty blade for cutting brush is excellent.

Now the Poulan Pro edger attachment is outstanding. It cuts clean and the cadet power head has more than enough torque to power the blade. The only problem is you have to bend over a little while edging... more
